- Aurthur Costa, Learning and Leading with Habits of Mind
One of the best aspects of working in the field of education is the inherit value of continuing education. Professional Development is key to ensuring that your practice is informed by the most current research and I strive to take as many opportunities as possible to hone my craft.
Aside from Professional Development, it is important to continue your formal learning through various courses offered by universities and other educational institutions. Online certifications, hybrid virtual courses, and even traditional programs make obtaining advanced degrees even easier. What is important is that you never stop learning.
Educators frequently utilize the phrase "life-long learning" in its application to an effective pedagogical approach. However, we must also value the variety of ways our staff and students can become life-long learners. Practicing an instrument, navigating your new iPhone, or even building a birdhouse is learning. We should not strive to simply cultivate our academic pursuits, but to be pursuant in the cultivation of all knowledge. This is the driving force behind my teaching philosophy.
