My educational philosophy and practice is ever-changing. The mentor-ship of great leaders, new research, and general observations help me continuously improve both professionally and personally. Here are some of the people whom have had a profound impact on me and continue to help shape my focus. I am forever thankful to all of them.
Michelle's leadership and expert navigation through troubled times not only allowed me to learn many things but also allowed me the opportunity to gain experience dealing with board challenges. Always a thought partner on how to rebuild a school for the better, her engery and enthusiam never ceases to amaze me.
Dr. Malone is the embodiment of servant leadership. A true instructional leader, I am thankful for the opportunity to learn how to balance day to day managerial tasks with long term vision. Dr. Malone has also made my transition from the Public to the Independent School environment a much easier process.
Through the University of Pennsylvania's School Leadership program, the experience, guidance, and kindness of Dr. Dawson and Dr. Ball has completely reshaped my vision of leadership. Without them I would not be the leader I am today.
Though you may know Dr. Thomas as the author of The Dark Fantastic: Race and the Imagination from Harry Potter to the Hunger Games, before that she was my mentor at the University of Pennsylvania. Not only did she help me become a better learner and educator, but she helped me understand Children's Literature in an entirely new way. I am thankful every day for for the wisdom I glean from working with Dr. Thomas.
Ms. Bethea's mentor-ship for leadership has been an amazing experience that has helped me navigate through my personal struggles with many aspects of my growth as a leader. I am always grateful to her for helping me keep things in perspective.
There are some things you can learn about being a leader from a book and some things you learn from experience. Mr. Butler, with his years of experience in the Camden City School District, taught me many of the invaluable "soft skills" about being an effective leader. Every day with Mr. Butler was a master class in school leadership.
Dr. Hernandez first recognized my potential for leadership in education. Her encouragement and guidance has helped me realize and define my goals about being a great school leader.
A former educator himself, Dr. DiLauro first recognized my potential and encouraged me to pursue a career in education. His business acumen and his guidance on how to apply those skills in education has truly helped me excel in every position.
